The 1.0 launch will deliver a completely overhauled Adventure Mode, giving you a choice of temples to explore, each with a specific whip, relic, and series of challenges to overcome. We will also be introducing the new and improved core experience with Abyss Mode, previously called Classic Mode, which challenges players to enter a temple and progress through all four areas within and collect the relic at the end. Only one person will ever complete each temple, so time (and skill) are of the essence.

thrusts players into procedurally generated temples with the goal of obtaining relics. Naturally, said temples are filled with perilous traps. Bottomless chasms, spiked hallways of death, and giant spinning blades are just a few of the nasty surprises waiting to cut you into tiny pieces.

The cleverest players will use the phantom runs of failed attempts from other players to their advantage and avoid the missteps and mistakes that led to their doom.

A harrowing journey through desolation and despair, exploring the limits of human resilience. Uncover your past and survive the Algerian desert. Fear is your enemy; stay calm to not succumb to an illness threatening you and your loved one. Avoid darkness, hide from monsters, and solve puzzles.

Your character has a finite number of hearts that dwindle with every hit you take. Run out of hearts, your character will die, and your run will end. Another player may pick up your essence for a boost.

Of course you can also use the thunder whip Phantom Abyss Gameplay to run like Usain Bolt and leave him in the dirt, but even with it don't assume you'll never be bothered by him, especially if you try to go for chests.

feel like a retro platformer. While these can be great fun, it did mean that your whip swings in a very disjointed way. In addition to this, each level feels very basic and somewhat familiar. However, this was mostly down to the fact that they are.

While the ability gives you some pretty good mid-air horizontal movement, it is outclassed by most other movement options. Not a useless ability, but it doesn't have much utility either.

Heal but better, as it also increases your health cap by one heart. If you have to choose between this and Heal, always choose the Heart Container.

And don't forget, that if you get reset to the front of a room because of a crush or fall, then the guardian is that much closer, or possibly where you will respawn and thus it will end your run.

Jon Bitner As fun as the latest in the franchise is, there are plenty of other cooperative shooters worthy of your time.

If you’re a fan of retro platformers, then this action-adventure game may still be worth checking out, but, unless you have a burning desire to play, it’s hard to fully recommend
